He was a Research Associate at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography in Leipzig (2007\u20132008) and the University of Potsdam&#8217;s Geography Department (2005\u20132007).  <\/p>\n\n<p>He earned his doctorate in Geography at the University of Bremen in 2004 with a dissertation titled \u201cSpace, Surveillance, Control: On State Regulation of Urban Populations,\u201d after completing his studies in Geography there (1992\u20131999). He has also been a visiting scholar at CNRS PASSAGES in Bordeaux (2016) and the CITY Institute at York University in Toronto (2012). <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research focus<\/h2>\n\n<p>Bernd Belina\u2019s research focuses on historical-geographical materialism, urban geography, rural geography, political geography, and critical criminology.
