Since 2023, she is pursuing her PhD (Barbara Sch\u00f6nig). From November 2022 to January 2024, she was involved in the research workshop &#8220;Krise und Transformation des Eigenheims&#8221; at the Institute for European Urban Studies (IfEU). <\/p>\n\n<p>Johanna G\u00fcnzel studied Urban Studies at the Bauhaus-Universit\u00e4t Weimar and Istanbul Teknik \u00dcniversitesi from 2011 to 2016 (Bachelor\u2019s) and completed her Master&#8217;s in Urban Studies at Bauhaus-Universit\u00e4t Weimar from 2017 to 2021. <\/p>\n\n<p>Johanna G\u00fcnzel has three children and has lived in Weimar since 2011. Originally, she is from Nuremberg. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research focus<\/h2>\n\n<p>Johanna G\u00fcnzel&#8217;s research focuses on questions of housing needs, the distribution of living space, and housing space sufficiency. She addressed these topics in the research workshop \u201cCrisis and Transformation of the Single-Family Home\u201d and is currently exploring them in her dissertation, focusing on the single-family home sector in shrinking cities in Thuringia. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recent projects<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dissertation: \u201cShould I Stay or Should I Go? \u2013 Wohnbed\u00fcrfnisse und -perspektiven von Empty Nestern im Einfamilienhaus\u201d: The goal of this research is to conduct a qualitative investigation of the housing biographies, expectations and perspectives of single-family homeowners in post-family phases in areas of shrinking municipalities in Thuringia.
