Short CV
Marina Mironica is an urban sociologist and is doing her doctorate at the Institute of Human Geography on the relationship between the form of ownership and the implementation of energy-efficient refurbishment in rental housing. Her current area of interest is socio-ecological transformation in the context of urban and housing research.
After completing her sociology studies in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) in 2019, she conducted research on unequal urban development through real estate development and the financialisation of industrial sites, on cultural workers between institutionalisation and gentrification, and on urban planning processes and the role of civil society. She is co-producer of the social science podcast Contrasens. Since 2020, she has been gaining work experience in cooperative urban planning in Berlin and is involved in the tenant movement, including in the Berlin campaign for socialisation in the housing sector.

Of Warmth and Contradictions: The Significance of Ownership Structures for Energy Renovations (10.2024–present)
In my dissertation project, I am investigating the extent to which the form of ownership of housing companies – cooperative, municipal and various types of private ownership – influences the implementation of energy-efficient refurbishments and the way tenants are treated.
