Robert Pütz has been a Professor of Human Geography at the Institute of Human Geography at Goethe Universität Frankfurt since 2004. Previously, he held a professorship in Social Geography at the University of Osnabrück (2004) and served as a senior lecturer at the Department of Geography at Gutenberg University Mainz (2003).
He earned his doctorate at Gutenberg University Mainz in 1998 with a dissertation on retail in Poland and habilitated in 2003 with the work on transculturality as practice. He studied Geography with a focus on Urban Planning and Social History at the University of Cologne, where he obtained his diploma in 1993.
Research focus
Robert Pütz specializes in socio-economic metropolitan research and the geographies of human-animal relationships. His work integrates cultural and economic geography perspectives to examine urban transformations and societal dynamics.
Recent projects
Verträglichkeitsdiskurse im Kontext geplanter innerstädtischer Einkaufszentren, 2017–2019, (DFG), in collaboration with Denis Guth – This project explored debates surrounding the planning and development of inner-city shopping centers, focusing on conflicts and compromises between urban stakeholders and the public.
