Der Artikel analysiert, wie territoriale Stigmatisierung die Chancen sozialen Aufstiegs prägt. Auf Grundlage qualitativer Daten wird herausgearbeitet, dass die Abwertung bestimmter Wohnviertel langfristige symbolische Effekte auf Biographien entfaltet: Selbst nach einem Umzug bleibt die soziale Zuschreibung bestehen und beeinflusst Wahrnehmungen von Herkunft, Erfolg und Zugehörigkeit.
